Maturity

After being called immature by various people for various reasons, I decided to explore what maturity really means. I seriously wonder why I do these things. But I really wanted to figure out what maturity was.

My first thought, maturity means saying or doing the right thing at the right time. After a little discussion I felt that was not appropriate. Does being mature imply talking or acting in a way which is not you. Being fake? No it cannot, because who then gets the right to decide what is right and what is wrong. A quick and "civic textbook" answer comes to mind, that is "society". But society's opinion actually is the average of everybody's opinion. But then does being different mean being immature? Most certainly does not. My definition of maturity needs more tweaking.

Is maturity a perceived entity? I feel it is. It always is. Maturity is always attatched to somebody else isnt it? We never tend to judge ourselves. I am being so immature...that never happens! We always do whatever we feel is correct and mature at that moment. It is always someone else who judges you as immature. So will maturity exist in a closed room when no one is watching or no one knows what you are doing inside the room. Does maturity exist in a closed room? Maybe not.

Is it something more subtle like beauty? Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, doesnt it? Eventhough it does lie in the observers eyes there is some general consensus on who is beautiful and who is not. Maybe maturity also suffers from the same syndrome. It might be a hybrid entity.

Or maybe I am too immature to understand what maturity really is....someday
